Bizarre Thought for the Week, w/c 9th July 2001
Tony Dobson

Hi all,
You can be guaranteed it will never happen when you're in no hurry, but when you need to get somewhere quickly it does. Traffic lights turning red.

This is a typical story of traffic lights doing their thing when I was on the way into work one day. The first set of traffic lights at the end of the village - turned red as I was coming up to them. The next set in Wishaw (where I usually park), red again. The next set of traffic lights at a small pedestrian crossing, red. The next set, a few hundred yards on, red again. Four for four, what a way to start the day!

By the time a fifth set of lights stopped me I was finding my lack of fortune to be a bit frustrating. Thinking ahead to avoid another set of lights and a roundabout where there are always delays I took a back street to cut them out of my route. Guess what? No, not traffic lights. No, instead I was greeted by a reversing trailor full of Land Rovers.

I'm not sure quite how I managed to be in work on time that day, but I did. And it is probably only because I did that I can tell the story with a smile, albeit a rueful one.

Have a good week!
