Bizarre Thought for the Week, w/c 29th October 2001

Hi all,
After the early days, when list subscribers regularly complained about the high percentage of sporting mentions, I have tried to veer away from the topic of sports. However I need some therapy in regard to a certain issue, and therefore I need to speak with someone about it. Sorry my humble subscribers, it will have to be you.

I need to confess. There is no way around it. I am shamefully poor at Fantasy Sports! I pick sensible team names, I do research beforehand, everything seems to go well before each league starts and then, BANG, everything goes extremely pear-shaped!

Not that bad you would have thought, only that it is getting to be quite embarassing. The worst case is my current predicament. As it was organised by a friend I signed up for a Fantasy Ice Hockey league. I did a bit of research, was pleased with the players I got, and where am I? Sixteenth, and last in the whole league (see, I do have the strongest team - I'm holding everyone else up!).

This particular league runs in head-to-head mode. My performances have been so bad that I've been thrashed by someone who was holidaying in Sweden for a prolonged period, and thus did nothing to his team whilst beating me handsomely in nine of twelve scoring categories.

So I'm well adrift at the foot of the table, and this week I'm up against a guy who won't be able to change his team at all either as he's in hospital for a major operation! If I do well it will feel hollow, and if I lose... well, it doesn't bare thinking about.

Time for my tried and trusted "ignore it, things can't get any worse!" tactic, me thinks...

Have a good week!
Tony
